'I have read your book about mysteries in KY and noted the story about hyenas
in KY. We were traveling back from the Louisville area to our home in TX in
August and saw what looked like hyenas along interstate 30 west of Little Rock
in the dark. Both my wife and I saw a group of them standing along the interstate
in the darkness. I asked my wife what was that along the road since I only saw
a glance of them and she responded that "they looked like hyenas"
I remember seeing dog like creatures that were gray in color with scary looking
faces. I know they were not coyotes since I have seen them several times. They
were the color of goats.'

'I was driving down Bridge Hollow road which is a shortcut I take to get from
the Barren River Lake area to my house. I was driving slow because it was night
on a one lane road, as I topped a small hill, this huge animal ran down an embankment
on the right side of the road and crossed in front of me. It turned to look
at the car and struck out across a creek bottom on the left side of the road.
I have also heard strange whailing noises at other times driving through the
same area at night.'

'It stood around 7 to 8 feet tall with long mangy hair all over it's body. It
was definitely male because as it turned to look at my car I could see a protrusion
in the genital area. Every other description I have read makes this creature
out to be very aggresive. I don't think that is the case, when the animal turned
and looked at me the only emotion I saw in his eyes was peace. It reminded me
of the movie Harry and the Hendersons. A very intelligent and humanlike creature
with feelings and emotions, perhaps even thought.'

'It was summer. I was 16 years old.My two younger brothers and I wanted to go
camping but we didnt have a tent. My mom sugested we cut down trees and build
us a small cabin up on a huge rock up on the field above our house to camp in
when we want to go camping. It sounded like alot of work to me but I was up
for it if my brothers were. So we went out to scout some small timber to cut
down. My brothers found some befor we reach the top of the mountian and they
began to cut them down they sent me on ahead to scout for more up above the
field around the cliffs edge. I had been up through that field numberious times
alone and I had an idea area thought of that had quiet a few trees the size
we were looking for. As I reach my destination under the cliff side I took a
good look around to see how many trees that there was. I dicied to go ahead
and start chopping the nearest one at the edge of that little thickett with
my hatchit. The sounds of the metal hitting against the tree ecoed along the
cliff side i guess got half ways through that tree when the heat started getting
to me so i dicided to sit down under the tree and take a break I guess I hadnt
been sitting there maybe 5min. when I heard a banging noise above me on the
cliffside. A t first i thought well thats the ecoe of the hatchet where i was
hitting that tree a while ago. but it kept on and i began to get alittle curious.
I got up and backed away from the cliff to look up on top. I didnt see nothing
so I started to go back to the tree i was chopping when rocks started sliding
from the cliff above me. I looked up and then I saw it. At first i thought what
in the world is that? Then when I realized what i Had seen wasnt matching up
with any animal I had ever seen i began to get scared. there standing about
15 ft above me on the cliff was this man like thing with shouldersabout four
ft wide and long shaggy redish brown hair hanging about 6 to 8 inches all over
its body. It was huge I had never seen any thing like it. my first inpulse was
to sream and run but my momma said that the first instict of a wild animal is
to chase if you run. so i tried to keep calm backing up slowly. my mom always
told me that if i were to ever run into an animal to pick up two rocks and beat
them together to scare it off. so i picked up two rocks and started beating
the crap out of them. It wasnt working. this thing start beating two rocks together
just like me. so i threw the rocks down and started backing up slowly across
the field toward the hill above our house. i kept my eyes glued to this thing
afriad at any moment it could jump off that cliff after me. it followed me from
the top of the cliff as it reach the spot on the cliff where it could climb
down I broke into a run toward the botom of the hill where i met up with my
two brothers screaming and crying. i have never saw anything like that before
but i have watched tv , read and listened to other peoples stories of strange
encounters. And the only thing remotely resembling what i hadseen that day people
call a bigfoot.'

'Went out for a smoke , the woods were eerily quiet usually i whistle at the
birds or even mock the new coyote puppies. But this morning there was not a
sound to be heard not even the crickets. Being silly i decided to make some
noises of my own out of shear boredom. I began to mimic a deer grunting w/a
growl attached. I'm not sure how long i was doing this and thats when i heard
the loudest crashing noise ever coming from about 20-30 yards away. There is
a large 5'7'' fence between me and a large wood line. the noise sounded like
foot steps crashing hard into the forest floor at the same time I could hear
tree limbs being snapped like twigs. I was frozen in fear what ever I had disturbed
was huge and coming straight for me. Then to the left of me I thought i heard
a growl it was even closer than the crashing woods which i turned my attention
back to very quickly. I was terrified my Knees buckled. I almost cried in fear
what ever was moving towards me was coming hard and fast and tearing the woods
up as it came. I ran for what i felt was my life. I was so scarred it took me
for ever to even get the courage to peep out the window.
I did not work the next evening returned on Tuesday . I decided i needed to
get the courage up to look on the other side of the fence maybe into the woods
to see if i could see any evidence of what it could have been i found two foot
prints by the fence. they were about 11-13 inches long. Finding these foot prints
made me very scared and very excited at the same time. I did not stay behind
the fence for long. this experience has made me very frightened of the woods.
I regret not taking any pictures of the prints but i did share them with a co
worker she got very scared also and could not believe what she was looking at.
The woods are to steep and very thick with brush I could not investigate. I
got a camera and a spotlight together. I set out some bait in zip lock baggie,
zipped it almost shut set it out on a rock on the other side of the fence on
a rock at the edge of the wood line this was on Thursday. I filled it with microwaved
spam and garlic smelled really bad added a banana
and waited. when i came back out to check it the baggie was empty unzipped and
turned inside out and laid in the exact spot i left it. Friday night i tried
some tree Knocking and got nothing. Monday the 18th I was giving up when i went
out to smoke thats when I heard it it sounded even closer than before.i could
hear it walking in the woods. This time walking away from me it began hitting
trees with what sounded like a limb I wasn't as scarred to stand there as long
as it moved away. I listened to it walking and hitting trees until i couldn't
hear it any more. this was about 5:30 I haven't heard anything since Monday.

would meet up at my house and car pool to work. we pulled out on to highway
25 tworads corbin and about a mile before crossing the bell co/knox co line

'i was squirrel hunting sunday morning and was sitting on the hill and i heard

'I went to the edge of a small bay on Lake Barkley (near Davenport Bay) to do
some fishing. I cast a lure into the water when movement across the bay caugfht
my eye. I looked up and saw a figure in the bushes stand up and run up the hill.
I was familiar with every animal native to the LBL and this was something I'd
never seen before. It ran upright on two legs with the arms swinging at the
sides. It ran like a human. I watched as it disappeared over the hill. A minute
or so after it disappeared, I realized my lure was still floating on the water.
I'd forgotten all about it. I tried to make my way around to the other bank
where I'd seen the figure but the brush was too thick. Over the rest of the
summer I returned to the same spot several times but never saw it again.'

'I would estimate it stood only about 6 ft. It was covered from head to foot
with brown fur. There was short hair on the head. The fur didn't look shaggy
or unkempt, it looked smooth and shiny. I could see the muscles moving under

of all was that it had what can only be described as an hourglass figure. The
legs and arms were long, but not overly muscular. This leads me to believe that

168 was had no homes built and no street lights as it does now. I was talking

'LET ME SAY FIRST I AM A BELIVER IN BIG FOOT. I AM A 63 YEAR OLD HOUSEWIFE AND
CARE GIVER TO 30 ABUSED ANIMALS. MY HUSBAND AND I HAVE BEEN TAKING CARE OF ABUSED

TOP OF THIS HILL AND I SAW THIS BIG HAIRY CREATURE CROSS ON THE OTHER SIDE OF
THE BRIDGE ABOUT HALF WAY UP THE HILL. IT LOOKED LIKE A BIG MAN, BUT WAS COVERED
IN HAIR. IT CAME OUT OF THE LEFT SIDE OF THE VERY HEAVEY WOODED AREA CROSSED
OVER THE PAVED ROAD TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD, BUT THEN IT WENT BACK TO
THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AND JUST SORT OF STAIRED AT ME I BELIEVE AND THEN WENT
BACK TO THE RIGHT SIDE AND DISAPPEARED INT O THE WOODS.
I WAS REALLY STUNNED AND I SAID TO MYSELF I THINK YOU HAVE JUST SEEN A BIG FOOT, IT'S ARMS SEEM MUCH LONGER THEN ANY PERSON'S WOULD BE AND THE CREATURE JUST SWAYED THEM BACK AND FORTH.
WELLL, I WASN'T SURE IF I SHOULD TELL ANYBODY. I DID TELL MY HUSBAND. THEN I WAS TALKING TO MY VERY BEST FRIEND HERE IN KENTUCKY AS WE ARE 8 YEAR TRANSPLANTS FROM CHICAGO AND I TOLD HER WHAT I HAD SEEN. WHAT SHE TOLD ME NEXT REALLY SHOOK ME UP.
SHE CLAIMED THAT SHE HAD OR HAS AN UNCLE WHO LIVES VERY CLOSE TO THIS SAME AREA WHERE I HAD THE SIGHTING AND HE OFTEN TOLD HER HE HAD SEEN WHAT HE THOUGHT TO BE A BIG FOOT IN THE AREA.
THIS REALLY MADE ME FEEL BETTER AND I AM VERY SURE AT WHAT I HAD SEEN.
PEOPLE DO ALOT OF FISHING DOWN BY GREEN RIVER, BUT THIS WAS MUCH HIGHER UP IN SUCH DENSE WOODS I DON'T SEE HOW A HUMAN COULD REALLY OR WOULD REALLY WANT TO GET INTO SUCH A DENSE WOODS. AND WHEN IT WALKED BACK TO THE MIDDLE OF HE ROAD AND JUST STOOD LOOKING MY WAY WHY WOULD A PERSON WANT TO LOOK AT A TRUCK.

'i was out digging yellow root near concord ky on route 57. i walked up a hill
to avoid crossing a deep hallow. as i got to the top and started down the other

'I was on my way home from work. At the time I lived in Greentown, a sort of
Suburb of Paintsville, next to the river. There was a sharp curve with an old
delapidated house only feet away from the road on the right hand side going
down Rt 40 East, towards Thealka. As I rounded the curve I saw this tall creature
walking along side the road to my right. It was covered in white/greyish hair
and walked upright, but not straight like a man, it was sort of hunched over
a bit. It was heading towards the river. I couldnt believe my eyes, and I drove
on home, which was only about 1/4 mile on down the road.
My good friend lived next door and the next day I told her what I had saw. I expected her to say that I was crazy or ask me if I had been drinking but instead she told me about the time her son and his friend(?) had seen the same thing while they were our gigging for frogs one night. I was astonished.
His story would be

'I was driving home from Danville with my 2 teenagers, we live in McKinney and
took the shortcut near Moreland, a road called Frog Branch, near Peyton's Well
I and my son saw a strange dog-sized creature come up out of a ditch, I didn't
think much about it until I saw its eyes glowed strangely, and I don't mean
normal eyeshine. Then i noticed it did not walk like a normal dog either. It
walked like an ape. Also noted a square muzzle with vi sable fangs. this creature
walked calmly towards us as we drove past. At the same time my daughter in the
backseat was seeing a different creature entirely. I can only say after reading
Mysterious Kentucky that what she saw was a grave digger. I admit I was skeptical
until i read the story of the grave digger. She saw this white creature sitting
on its haunches beside the creek that is near the road. What i remember best
is the way she described its front legs or arms, she said it held its arms like
a dinosaur, a t rex or a raptor.'

'The monkey-demon dog (the name my son gave the creature) was about the size
of our shar-pai, but heavier and more muscular through the shoulders. It was
black or very dark brown. The face was rather flat with a squarish muzzle. The
ears were rounded and set more to the side of the head rather like a chimps.
The eyes glowed a yellow-green with no white showing. Two upper fangs were clearly
visible though the mouth was not open. It walked on all 4s with a pronounced
rolling gait, again like an ape.
The grave digger was about 5 to 6 ft tall sitting on its haunches. White with
darker arms. The face was round, neither dog or cat-like. the ears were small.It
was holding something in its hands while it sat beside the creek. It turned
its head at an odd angle to watch our car pass.

'can't recall any sounds or anthing unusual except the creatures. This section
of road has always felt off to me. We did see strange whispy things emerge from
a fog one day just a ways back along this road one day. And a girl I go to college
with says she saw a man hanging from a tree in that area, so I assume this road
is haunted. If the guy in Junction City is still looking for the grave digger,
would be happy to show him where we saw this one. It's in the same general area.'

'The year was 1976 we lived on Indian Creek near Virgie, Ky. I an a minister
and often called to preach in funerals. It was (I Think) in October I remember
the weather was beginning to turn cool at night.
It happened that I was called to preach in a funeral in the night service at
Marison funeral home in Martin, Ky. After the service was over my wife and I
started back home. We went up left Beaver Creek on State Route 1428 as it was
a shorter route to where we lived. We went through Price, Ky, between Price
and Wheelwright was serveral miles that there was no houses on the highway side.
Although there were some houses along the railroad which was 2 or 3 hundred
yards from the highway.
About 3 miles beyond Price, ky. As we went along, our lights showed something
going at a rather fast walk in the middle of my lane. As we got closer, we could
see this creature real well. It stood 7 or more feet tall, was broad shouldered,
and had long shaggy hair from the top of its head all the way to its feet. I
moved over to the left lane and slowed down to about 10 to 12 mph. I tried to
see its face but it just looked straight ahead. It acted like nobody was anywhere
in the world.
My wife and I both saw this creature quite well. It didnt make any noise but
my wife rolled down the window on her side of our car to get a better look.
She said it smelled real bad.
As I said the stretch of road at this place was about 5 miles long with no houses.
This is the first and only time we ever saw anything like this and for many
years we didnt tell anyone for fear they would think we were crazy.
We are christians and I am a minister, I have no reason to lie about a thing
like this.

'My best friend at I were at summer camp in Fontenell forest in Nebraska. We
were supposed to be sleeping, in our A frame which is a hut like thing. well
my brother and I desided to take a walk through the forest. well we were walking
when we heard a twig break. we thought we had heard noises through out the night,
but this was diffrent, it was loud. This must have been a rather large stick.
My brother and I both turned around. it was rather dark, and Cold, the moonlight
was the only source of light we had. We could see a outline of a large creature.
We thought maby a deer or something had broken the stick and our minds were
playing jokes on us. But then we saw it breath and the steam leave his mouth,
it was rather cold so we could very easy see the breath leave his mouth. At
this point my brother and I both froze, we had no idea who was in front of us,
the size of this creature was huge. it was at this point my brother and I desided
to run, so we took of in the direction of our camp. I dont think it followed
us, I didnt turn back to look, I wont lie a was scared shitless. Later that
week when my brother and I were in our A frame, we could hear something walking
around the camp. We were only there for about a 5 days, three out of the five,
we have now concluded to be bigfoot encounters, we both have a huge desire to
search this forest now that we are older. '

'We own a small farm in northern Garrard county, around us are several other
farms of similar size; plenty of room for a creature of this sort to live without
being noticed... much.
My brother and I were in our two-acre paddock where we keep our horses and goats, when we saw a honey-suckle bush moving as if something large was behind it. We looked around and saw that the horses were grazing about ten yards away in one direction, and in the other were all seven goats yelling there heads off about something. Then my brother looked down and found some wet, orange to brown hair, we ran back to the house where my brother got his camcorder. When we came back to that spot the goats were quiet (quietER) and the large animal was gone. We thought we heard a funny howling noise up to the South-West corner of the property. When we got up there we found a small field, some forest, and a little swamp/pond. There was a horibble smell over near a fence that divided our farm from that of our neighbors', trees and bushes surounded it. And when in shock, I whispered to my brother "I see a big animal over there!" he thought I ment in our neighbors' field, when instead I meant behind a bush only a few yards away. He was pointing his camcorder out into the field and seeing nothing, "Its in the bush." I said. But it had already left.

Hair: Wiry, orange/brown; like the wet hair that my brother found

dark, when i saw a large black hairy upright figure walk out of the woods and
run across the parking lot. I got in my car, locked the doors and watched as
it walked around the parked cars and knocked over a trash can.'
